Can be: If the nerve that travels into the calf is being irritated or impinged by that herniated disc (especially if the disc herniation has progressed in the last two years). Nerve testing by neurologist/pm&r physician can help confirm the nerve being affected. Epidural steroid injection may lessen nerve root swelling/inflammation.

Depends: It's possible. Usually one would expect pain on more one side versus the other. However if it persists you should see your orthopedic specialist.
