I have oa in spine, herniated l5 disc, with annular tear. can this be causing my upper leg muscles behind the leg, to be tight, and painful? thanks.

Possible: If there is nerve or spinal cord compression, you certainly can have symptoms that cause leg symptoms that you describe. If you doctor, does not see nerve or spinal cord compression then further workup may be necessary to explain your symptoms. Good luck

Yes: Yes, absolutely. The term "sciatica" refers to an irritation of a nerve in the back causing pain down the leg. Both a herniated disc and an annular tear can cause the symptoms you are describing. Don't hesitate to be seen as there are many good treatment options.
