X-rays: You can get too many x-rays but it doesn't sound like your friend has too many. Damage from x-rays is cumulative over a lifetime. Cat scans have been shown to have equivalent radiation to 100 to 300 x-rays so getting 10 chest x-rays is not excessive and i wouldn't expect it to cause any damage. Since the damage is cumulative we always want to try and minimize the number of x-rays and cat scans.

Yes and No: All radiographic studies that use x-rays (inludes ct scans and fluoroscopy) carry a very low risk of causing cancer. Ct scans typically give patients the largest dose. However, when indicated, the benefits far outweigh the risks. For example, if a patient has blood in their urine, the risk of an obstructing stone or urinary tract cancer, far outweighs the risk of developing cancer from ct scan.

Yes you can. : The use of all ionizing radiation (x-rays, ct and isotopes) can be harmful and must be balanced with the clinical need. The exact amount depends on age, the area being radiated, the energy of the radiation and the dose.
