Is it important to see a dentist when you've lost a filling?

Lost filling: Absolutely get into your dentist. The longer you wait, the greater the chance of having other problems i.e. Root canal issues, breaking teeth, etc. Make the call and get in right away.

Yes ASAP: When a dentist places a filling they remove the decayed tooth material and replace it with filling material. When a filling is lost the tooth is exposed without the protective enamel layer and decay can rapidly gain a foothold and cause damage leading to more than just a replacement filling, ie; a crown, root can or even an extraction. See a dentist as soon as possible to avoid expense and pain.
