A member asked:

Is it true that cognitive behavior therapy works for obesity?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

CBT is Often Helpful: Yes, cognitive-behavioral therapy (cbt) can be effective in treating obesity in many cases. Cbt works by assisting a person in identifying and revising thought patterns/beliefs associated with mood and behavioral problems. A person's eating and exercise patterns can be improved by tuning up one's thought patterns to decrease distress and increase well-being and optimism about improving health.
