Free from what?: From the turmoil caused by feeling that the internal gender is different from the external one? Some people feel great relief and liberation by having gone through a sex change process. Some find other ways to bear that discomfort. The human condition always has some turmoil, so no one is completely free. It is an illusion to think that changing gender frees someone from _all_ turmoil.

Freedom vs. Freedoms: I'm wondering what u mean by "totally free"! certainly there are transgender-identified people who are just as free/content/sad/lonely, etc. As cisgender-identified people. ["cisgender" = those whose gender assigned at birth matches their internal gender identification.] as a group, do transgender-identified individuals have the same civil rights/freedoms as their cisgender counterparts? Not yet.

You mean happy?: If you mean happy, well adjusted, well employed, financially OK, in good relationships - YES! While it is true that many transgender people have suffered from discrimination in jobs, etc., there are MANY who are happy, healthy, and living wonderful lives. Get in contact with a TG support organization like Ingersoll Gender Center in Seattle. Life can be excellent! LGromko MD
