Why substitute?: If the goal is to come off of pain medications all together then there are better ways. Withdrawing from opioids can be well controlled by weaning off of the medication slowly or by treat the symptoms. Suboxone is another alternative to help wean from opioids, but this needs to be prescribed by a physician with a special dea license.
