Infection: Inflamation spreads from the blocked pore. Lips are relatively soft and easily expanded. The expansion causes the pain. Heat on the swollen area will help bring the infection to the surface. Antibiotics also help. If you are at risk with infections such as diabetic you should take a more aggressive action. If it does not clear up in 2 weeks you should seek professional help.

Infection?: If the swelling is related to a zit or pimple then it could be infected. You may have to see a doctor or dermatologist to have it looked at if it is continuing to get worse or doesn't start getting better within a couple of days. It may have to be lanced and/or you may require antibiotics for it to get back to normal.
