Start with splint: Night splinting and daily gentle stretches and flexibility exercises are they best way to treat early carpal tunnel. As the condition progresses and splinting no longer controls the numbness, then surgical management is the best treatment.

Depends: Early symptoms often resolve simply with splinting. Steroid injections are a good measure if you are trying to put off surgery which is often the definitive cure.

Surgery: Some studies show a 98% success rate with surgery. Conservative treatments have a lower success rate. http://vipplasticsurgery.com/other/#carpal-tunnel.
