Porcelain : Composite resin (old fashioned), porcelain ceramic, lithium disilicate. Different generations & different properties; more translucent, stronger, more polish. An important issue you may want to consider is "prepping" or drilling down of tooth structure. I prefer veneers with no drilling of teeth when possible. Lumineers are an example of no-prep veneers, or minimal prepping in some cases.

Usually Porcelain: Most of the time when the topic "veneers" is mentioned we are referring to porcelain veneers. These are varying types of ceramic. Be careful not to fall into this pitfall: i see too many patients getting fixated on a certain "brand" of veneers. The key to getting amazing results is to focus on finding the best cosmetic dentist you can. Then feel free to discuss your brand preferences.

Different materials: Most conventional dental veneers are made out of porcelain, which essentially a glass type of material, leading to it's sheen and color. Veneers can also have a hard zirconia substructure in which porcelain is placed on top to add strength. Finally, veneers can be made of simple dental composite, but esthetics are typically not as good and they tend to not be as strong.
