Why a fever: The fever is just a symptom of a problem, usually an infection, and it's the cause, not the symptom, to worry about. Viral infections are most common, but localized bacterial infections are a possibility also. Look for symptoms of sharp pain, rash, severe headache, stiff neck, ear pain, sore throat, belly pain. A cool (not cold) bath, children's Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen) can all help with the fever.
