A member asked:

Can avoidant personality disorder cause attention problems?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: The hypersensitivity to negative evaluation by others is often associated with an inability to pay attention. The reason for this is that one's attention is focused on oneself. This "self-focused attention" is both an immediate cause of the anxiety that goes with the avoidance and also a cause of the attention problem. You can't pay attention well to two things at once.
