Steroids, mittens: Neurodermatitis is often the result of the itch-scratch-itch cycle. This can start because of some irritation like poison ivy or an injury, but after the original problem is gone, the skin is still itchy. The constant scratching causes damage and more irritation. So breaking that cycle is key. Otc steroids can help, as can aloe vera, systemic antihistamine and wearing mittens at night!difficult.
