Clear liquids!: Most diarrhea is due to viral gastroenteritis. Treatment should include resting the bowel and providing electrolytes. Hi fever and bloody diarrhea can be bacterial in nature and must be diagnosed by stool and blood studies. Rarely, diarrhea can be due to food intolerance such as milk allergy or lactose intolerance. If prolonged and accompanied by weight loss, see your doctor!

Use ORS if needed: Do not use any anti-diarrheal medication.Young children and infants should not be given a clear liquid diet. They should continue a normal diet but avoid high fat items. Nursing mothers should continue nursing. Do NOT give young children: plain water, tea, soda, Gatorade or Juices. They need an Oral Rehydration Solution(ORS).
