What is the consequence of new born baby being infected with gbs?

Depends: The outcome of gbs disease depends on when it starts in baby & how quickly treatment is started. When the water breaks, gbs can get into the fluid circulating around baby during labor & start the infection. We sometimes lose these kids <24hrs even if rx started at delivery. If acquired on the way out, we have a better chance of treating it at first signs. Most of mine have recovered.

Possibly Meningitis: Meningitis and its consequences or even death are the worst manifestations of newborn gbs infection. Fortunately, ob's test impending mothers for this. Iv antibiotics are administered to the mom before delivery to protect the baby.
