Comfort: Since the exam can take 30 to 40 minutes to complete and is very sensitive to motion it is important to make patients comfortable. Putting a pillow beneath the knees is sometimes helpful in reducing back pain that can develop over the course of the exam.

Comfort :): Brain flow? Improving the sequence? Nope. It makes it more comfortable on your lower back as most people suffer from chronic hip flexion due to sitting all day and don't feel comfortable lying on their backs!

Comfort, and...: Many people are more comfortable lying on the MRI table for 30 minutes or so when the feet are a little raised, or the knees are bent. This is also more comfortable with patients with any kind of back pain. For people who are having an MRI study with an injection, this is a quiet way to improve blood circulation to the brain in patients who fear or dislike needles.
