A member asked:

What happens to white blood cell counts in viral infections?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Difficult to know: Depends in large part on the virus. Often, in early stages you may see elevations in neutrophils, following by lymphocytosis. But you may see a wide variety of results which is dependent upon the underlying immune status of the patient and the type of infection with which you are dealing.
