Define blood infexn: When we say blood infection we are usually talking about sepsis, when the infection gets into your blood stream and your body is mounting a severe defense against it (called inflammation). The most severe one is usually caused by bacterial infection that has spread into the blood from skin or any organ (such as lung infection aka pneumonia). You could have a viral sepsis but it is rare.
