B12 is vital.: I highly recommend a book, "the world's healthiest foods" by george mateljan.
B12 can't be made by animals or plants, but by microorganisms like bacteria. In addition to beef (grass-fed please), yogurt, low-fat milk, eggs, salmon, scallops, shrimp, venison, sardines are good sources of b12. If you are a vegetarian, it is essential to take vit B12 supplement. By the way, a great question.

B12 : B12 principally derives from animal sources and eggs. Dairy has little. Select soy can provide some. More vegan foods are being supplemented with B12, as B12 defici, ency is common among vegans. See www.vegetarian.org.uk/factsheets/b12factsheet.html
