Did you bite it?: That's the most likely explanation i can think of... Did you have any recent dental work done etc?

Many causes: Did you bite your tongue? Wait a few days and see if the signs and symptoms go away. If not, see a doctor. Oral cancer can start under the lateral borders of the tongue.

Various reasons: Most common is tongue biting but it can also be an irritation from a fractured or chipped tooth that your tongue is rubbing against, or a lesion. Best to see a dentist to confirm what the problem is.
