It depends: If you hvae an ulcer on the tongue, it could be a cancur sore which usually heal within 7-10 days. Take some tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain relief. If the pain persists and if you see an ulcer which is not healed in 2-3 weeks, you need to get an examination by your doctor.

See your doctor: It sounds like there could be some type of infection going on. Please get examined and treated by your doctor as soon as you can.
