No.: Group a strep hardly ever causes meningitis; it is better known as the cause of strep throat, pneumonia, and "flesh-eating disease." group b strep can cause meningitis in newborns, but not strep throat.

Not usually: The type of stret that causes throat infections rarely goes on to cause meningitis except in people who are immunocompromised.
