TMJ,Bruxing: I have seem many patients on medications for bipolar disorders with bruxing and clenching issues. Have your dentist evaluate you for a night guard to be fabricatied over your teeth to balance the bite and protect the teeth from breakdown from the habit. It is a removable appliance.

Bipolar and Bruxism: Many people who are bipolar are treated with certain types of medications that one of the side affects is bruxism (teeth gnashing). Most of these drugs ssri's a type of anti-depressant. The bipolar may not be causing the bruxism. It is most likely the medication to help treat the bipolar disorder. You can get a mouth piece to protect the dentition from the bruxism from your dentist.

Orthopedic Dentist: The cause of grinding is rarely correctly treated. Most dentist make a bite appliance for you to wear to keep from grinding away the teeth. This is only treating the symptom and not the cause. The usual cause is the roof of your mouth (palate) is too narrow in comparison to the lower jaw. The muscles not finding their home position keep searching = bruxism results.
