Define toxic: This is essentially methane gas with the added odor of various microbe activity. It has a low potential for combustion if near open fire because it dissipates quickly. It's potential to spread germs is minimal. Some would consider it toxic to interpersonal relationships. The anal muscle is well designed to decide when you can release gas if you know how to use it effectively.
