Is there a link between bipolar, ibs?

Not that I know of: But we are not really certain of the reason for bipolar illness and ibs continues to be a challenge for us to treat. My guess is that bipolar is a biochemical imbalance in the brain and ibs is a body response to stress, chemically mediated but not proven. We strive to be able to say with certainty what causes any illness-but we fall far short.A good relationship with your dr helps. Both are tough dx's.

Irritable bowel/Bipo: Psychological stress factors come into play in etiology of ibs, such as patients with history of depression/anxiety/mood disorders, when undergo stressful life events. One theory is activation of the brain-gut axis, leading to symptoms.
