Many are innocent: I probably hear a heart murmur on every child at least once if i listen often enough. Murmur translates to mean extra noise. Many are due to audible blood flow beneath a lean kids rib cage & may sound like a vibrating string on a base fiddle. Some represent flow back from the head. As the kid acquires muscle with age, the flow noise may disappear. Some will remain into adulthood.

Not always: A heart murmur is a noise that we hear when we listen with a stethoscope to your child's heart. It can be caused by normal blood flow (innocent heart murmur) or by an abnormal finding (hole in the heart, valve or artery problem). Most innocent murmurs come and go, and usually go away by the time a child grows up. Murmurs caused by abnormal findings usually do not go away on their own.
