Common, not serious: Heart murmur is basically an extrasound is heard/generated when the heart pumps. Benign in medicine means not serious/not concerning. Probably about 60% of young children have some murmur during the first decade of life because of the rapid changes in the heart as they grow. So, if doc said benign heart murmur, that is something not to worry. If u are still concerned, consult doc. Good luck.

Flow murmur: Typically a systolic flow murmur in a younger patient that has no clinical significance. In order to classify as benign an echocardiogram is performed.
