Be prepared: Diarrhea often occurs while traveling outside the United States. It can be mild or complicated and dangerous. For mild diarrhea, it is safe to take Imodium (loperamide) and/or pepto-bismol. If you have persistent, bloody diarrhea or you also experience fever, nausea, vomiting and cramps, it is best to take antibiotics. Your doctor may prescribe Ciprofloxacin or zithromax to take with you.
