Mosquito bite: Ice applied to site will help swelling as well as itching. Topical benadryl/antihistamine calms itching. Oral Claritin (loratadine) + zantac/axid/ Pepcid blocks both histamine receptors, thus relieving reaction & itching. If scratching has caused increased redness, pus, fever, use topical antibiotic or see doc. If fever, aches, headache, rash occur, see doc at once since moquitoes can carry variety of illness.

Get it checked: Any large area of the skin that is red, warm and tender, (itchy or not), could well be an infection of the skin, called cellulitis. You may need antibiotics.
