Prescriptions: Never a good idea to suggest any particular medication to your doctor. Majority of doctors do not do well with this. Best is to ask the question "i really do not want to take opioid medication for the pain , what non opioid medications can you suggest?".

Ask your Doctor: Respectfully, this is a question that should be directed to him/her. The role of a pain specialist is to offer you a range of options. Then, together, you arrive at a reasonable plan.

Not a good idea: The treatment for any medical conditions, including chronic pain, depends on doctor's clinical impression. Even though there are many non narcotic medications for chronic pain like nsaids, muscle relaxants, anti-seizure medications, it is not a good idea to suggest treatment to your doctor. Discuss your concern with your doctor and let he/she guide you.
