Need re-evaluation: Red and swollen puncture site may indicate infection. This needs urgent re-evaluation by the physician. In the absence of an infection, persistent pain is most likely due to local blood clot (hematoma) or spinal fluid leak. Hematomas will resolve. Spinal fluid leak may require further treatment in addition to bed rest. Definitely check with your doctor who performed the procedure.

If your pain: Is at the injection site, some pain medication, ice and/or warm compresses may help. If you have a positional headache, consult your doctor about the benefits of a blood patch.
