A member asked:

Why do they use antabuse (disulfiram) instead of a regular pill that makes you nauseous?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Alcohol: Antabuse (disulfiram) is prescribed to individuals with alcohol problems and is an attempt to stop someone from drinking by inducing a negative reaction when someone drinks. In essence, it psychology employs behavioral theory by connecting alcohol use with a negative experience. Antabuse (disulfiram) prevents the body from breaking down certain chemicals. Other meds do not.
