Depends on your goal: The vision will be better in a rigid lens than a soft lens, but the comfort will be the opposite.

Variable: This is problem with multiple solutions depending on the amount of astigmatism, the angle of astigmatism and whether it is corneal, lenticular or both. You need a very focused exam for best results by someone who sprcializes and understands the problems. Sometimes it is from corneal curvature dises that may require a different lens or even surgery or contacts possible.

Toric: There is truly no best type of contact lens for treatment of astigmatism. Toric contact lens is the best.
