Why?: I have had patients tell me that if the holidays were coming or some big event, they would pop some antabuse (disulfiram). And immediately they would think, "if i take this tonight i'll be able drink in x number of days." if you need Antabuse (disulfiram) to keep from drinking, imho, you have a drinking problem and probably should not be drinking at all. Discuss this with your doctor or counselor.

Antabuse: I agree with Dr. Eastern. Antabuse is not for periodic use. Disulfiram (antabuse) is used to treat moderate to severe alcohol use disorder by causing an “unpleasant reaction” when alcohol is used. It is a prescription medication that is best used as part of rehabilitation program that includes counseling.

Agree with Drs E&F: Alcohol is a poison that never did anybody any good, ever, so stay away from it. Have a healthy diet, exercise 30 minutes/day, drink plenty of water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.
