Not a good idea: If i understand you correctly, you are having a hernia surgery & planning to drive 4 hours and stay near the surgical facility for 4 days. Many hernia surgical procedures are done as an outpatient. It may be alright to drive to the hospital, but you may need someone else to drive you home, especially if you are in pain or needing to take narcotics which may impare your driving skills. Ask surgeon.

Call your Surgeon: Not all hernia surgeries are alike, so it is impossible to answer this question without knowing the type of hernia and method of repair. However, most people will require narcotic pain medication for at least a few days, regardless of the technique. Therefore, it would likely be unwise to drive such a long distance so soon after your surgery.
