Not sure: 5-yr recurrence rate in the reported case series range from 5-30%. Many surgeons work together to standardize our techniques in order to achieve the most durable results for our patients. However, one size does not fit all just as no two patients are exactly alike. I have many patients who are happy after 10 yrs but i've also had to redo a few recurrences.

Long time : It should last for a lifetime. Having said that, it is common to have asymptomatic herniation of a small portion of the stomach back in to the chest. Thi is almost always without consequence, and only detectable with an upper GI contrast x-ray and/or endoscopy. Recurrences requiring another operation occur about 5% of the time.
