Would employees of emergency room pepper spray a wildly confused patient?

No: Usually such an effort would not be needed in an emergency room. Er staff are well trained in ways to safely and effectively deal with patients whose behavior is confused, violent, or belligerent. If needed, several staff could approach the person together, and subdue him/her without harm. If the patient were armed, though, security would be called -- and more drastic measures could be needed.

Agree wiDr. Pappas: This could confuse the patient even more. Medical staff are trained to handle this in a manner that doesn't work by causing physical pain to the patient.
