Is there any danger to getting braces?

Possibly: Depending on the anatomy of your teeth and if you have had bone loss there are some considerations that must be made. Talk to who ever is doing your braces and make sure they discuss all the risk benefits and alternatives so you can make the decision that is best for you.

Risks of braces: As with any type of treatment, there are always risks. Usually these risks are very minimal and never life threatening. Consult with an orthodontist and they will explain the risks; however, the benefits far outweigh the risks or no one would do it!

Small: Most risks with braces have to do with lack of oral hygiene compliance or failure to follow prescribed directions and return for regular appointments. All of these issues and others should be discussed with you as part of informed consent - ask questions and get the information you need to decide what is best for yourself.
