Not by themselves: Bananas are one food high in the essential Amino Acid tryptophan, which our bodies cannot synthesize, and which is a natural precursor of serotonin. Low serotonin levels can be associated with (but don't necessarily "cause") mood disorders like depression. Preventing depression includes a whole balanced lifestyle including healthy whole foods diet, exercise, sleep, and life purpose.
