Is it possible for the effects of sleep deprivation to last even after you get your sleeping under control?

Sleep deprivation: Sleep deprivation is an illness, if you need 8 hrs per night and only get 6 for a week you are 2 x 7 or 14 hours in arears. Therefore to recover you need to sleep 10 hrs per night for a week. Think of sleep as a bank with a 100% interest rate. Once the real deficit is corrected then you may still have the effects of poor sleep hygiene that put you in that position in the first place.
