Strengthen it: Popping is usually due to muscle imbalance or joint problems. Strengthen jaw muscles with gentle press against a rubber ball or 2 fingers in the mouth, but avoid "cocking" it during exercises. Isometric exercises that use resistance- tightening muscles without movement-are very helpful. Joint problems usually improve with this, but may need medical attention if it worsens.

TMJ Dentist: Jaw popping or TMJ dysfunction is a difficult area of dentistry. Generally there is an imbalance in your bite that manifests itself mostly while you are asleep which in turn causes your muscles to contract very forcibly clenching your teeth together, also known as bruxism. This stresses your TMJ muscles, teeth and jaw joint. Only a dentist with advanced training can properly diagnose and treat you.
