Trauma, mileage: Cervical spondylosis, or neck arthritis can be of several types. The most common is degenerative, the result of accrued 'mileage' on the neck joints. This can arise from repetitive motion or joint stresses from poor posture. A neck or head injury, or "whiplash" can accelerate the degenrative changes & cause premature arthritis in the neck. Other causes include rheumatoid, ankylosing spondylitis.
