Can you be exposed to streptococcal bacteria from animals?

Sometimes: One research article found that guinea pigs and rodents (lab mice) can be carriers of strep throat bacteria (group a strep). The animals had no symptoms, and probably got the bacteria from humans. Some people believe pet dogs and cats can be carriers of group a strep bacteria and can infect humans, but I have not seen any studies showing that kind of bacterial transmission.
