Dr. Carolyn Quist
Gynecology 35 years experience
Absolutely: It is a highly effective birth control pill but only correct and consistent use of any birth control method can result in low failure rates. You need to remember to take the pill every day and as close to the same time of day as possible. Always use a secondary birth control method if you get on antibiotics for any reason.

As directed: Ortho tri-cyclen is an oral contraceptive (ocp), otherwise known as a birth control pill (bcp). Regardless, it is taken by mouth daily. It is very important to take the pills in the proper sequence in order to keep from getting pregnant. It's also important to take them at about the same time daily. Ideally, you should take all your medications as directed by your physician.
