A member asked:

How many times do you need to get tonsillitis before you are offered a tonsilectimy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It depends: Seven episodes of tonsillitis in a 12 month period will meet the indications for tonsillectomy. There are other tonsillitis indications. If any one episode becomes chronic, which means no resolution after 3 months, this also meets the criteria. If the tonsillitis is accompanied by a peritonsillar abscess, a tonsillectomy is often done after one episode.
