Can you drink alcohol if you have pernicious anemia?

Very carefully.: Pernicious anemia is actually a type of gastritis, and alcohol worsens gastritis in most people.

Yes, usually: Pernicious anemia is caused by vitamin B12 deficiency, not by alcohol. However, alcohol can cause lack of folic acid, which causes similar problems to B12 in producing normal red blood cells. Modest alcohol use, however, should not have a major effect - this is no more than 3 drinks per occasion, and no more than 7 drinks/week in women. Talk to your internist or hematologist about your situation.
