Pain: Many reasons but see your doctor immediately. Common causes are gallstones, ulcer or reflux but heart attacks and ischemia can present as your kind of pain.

Depends: Depends on your risk factors and what you had done. Pancreatitis can cause the symptoms you are describing in the same area. Other possible cause: ulcer, gallbladder, blood clots...This is definitely not normal, so see your doctor soon to get this evaluated. Go to er if pain don't improve and can't get in to see your doctor soon enough. Good luck.
