Proper diagnosis 1st: This 'sprain' could be something more serious such as a disc herniation. Xrays, mri, strength & sensory tests are standard . Also, osteopathic hands-on diagnosis can prove very helpful in determining the cause, esp. If radiology is negative. Often what is thought to be a strain is something simpler & amenable to conservative, manipulative treatment.
