Strep throat: Whether the treatment is oral or intramuscular antibiotics, strep bacteria in the throat is wiped out in 24 hours when one is no longer contagious. The advantage of the shot is that it lasts for 10 days provided it was la bicillin. Oral meds should be taken daily for 10 days to prevent complications from the infection.
