Not usually: The organism that causes strep throat, Group A streptococcus, is less often the cause of an ear infection in most cases (it can). Usually inflammation in the throat translates to ear pain and vice versa. Many viruses of course cause pain in both areas. If you are receiving treatment already for the ear, then a sore throat may be normal in the coarse of recovery. Fluids and rest are a must

Separate real estate: Ear infections arise after mucous accumulates in the middle ear during a cold or other event.Throat germs climb up the Eustachian tubes to feed on it. It becomes a separate walled off infection. A person can acquire a strep throat at near the same time but not from the ear. (the germs of ear infections are different.)
